About colloids
- What is a colloidal mineral?
- A colloid is a suspension of tiny elemental particles held in distilled water. Our products contain the element and the water — no salt, no protein, and no other additives. That has been our rule since our supplement technicians began colloidal mineral research in 1996.
- What does the ppm number on the label mean?
- PPM — parts per million — states the concentration of the colloid. We publish it on every bottle (50 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 240 ppm), so a 240 ppm silver is roughly five times as concentrated as a 50 ppm silver.
- Why does my colloidal supplement have a taste?
- A noticeable metallic taste is a good sign. The strength of a colloid's “taste cue” depends on the total surface area of particles in suspension, and is your best evidence of a sufficiently concentrated product. You can't easily fool the tongue — if there is no taste at all, the particulate count is weak, an epidemic problem among single-mineral supplements like colloidal silver and gold.
- Should a colloid look cloudy or murky?
- No. Soluble minerals are always clear, and a genuine colloid in high concentration shows only a transparent color. A murky or muddy appearance indicates pollution, agglomeration (particles clumping and falling out of suspension), partial suspension, or excessively large, poorly bio-available particle sizes.
- What makes a mineral supplement taste bad?
- A horrid or sour taste usually means one of two things: the ingredients include elements that are naturally toxic or harmful to the human body, or the proportions of the respective elements are seriously wrong — or both. Follow your tongue, and compare the ingredient list against a chart of the elements actually used by the human body.
- How is your colloidal silver different from what I find elsewhere?
- Many products sold as “colloidal” are actually mineral salts, protein-bound compounds, or ionic solutions stabilized with additional ingredients. We make pure colloids only, using Zulgtal Labs (Switzerland) colloidal technology, whose U.S. West Coast marketing rights we acquired in 2001.
- How do you test your products?
- Zulgtal Labs applies a five-part quality testing summary — concentration (calibrated in ppm), average particle size (single-digit nanometers, measured by scattered laser light), total particulate surface area, agglomeration resistance (zeta potential), and shelf life. Our Quality page walks through all five in plain language.
- How long does a bottle keep?
- When concentration, particle size, and agglomeration are properly managed — and the bottle stays closed and uncontaminated — the shelf life of a pure colloid should be measured in years, not months.
Using the products
- How should I take colloidal minerals?
- Follow the directions on the bottle you have. Our How to Use guide covers the general approach: add a broad-spectrum trace mineral concentrate to your daily water rather than drinking heavily filtered water on its own.
- How should I store the products?
- Keep bottles closed and out of direct sunlight. Silver is photosensitive — light causes particles to agglomerate — which is why we use dark bottles. Stored properly, a pure colloid keeps for years.
